Happy New Year! The children were very excited to be back at GV, ready to start another year of English. Red Class even began a new unit today, learning about zoo animals. To add to the fun, they played a game of “What’s Missing?” where they had to guess which animal cards were missing.
あけましておめでとうございます！子ども達はサタデースクールに戻って、また英語の学習を始めることにとてもワクワクしていました。Redクラスは今日から新しいユニットを始め、動物園の動物について学びました。さらに楽しくするために、「What’s Missing?」というゲームもしました。これは、どの動物カードが抜けているかを当てるゲームです。
For gym time, the elementary classes played a traditional game of karuta—using the whole gymnasium! It was a very active game, and the children got surprisingly competitive.
ジムの時間、小学生のクラスでは伝統的なかるた遊びをしました。体育館全体を使ってのゲームでした！子ども達はかるたを取るために走り回りながらも、驚くほど真剣に競い合いました。
Pink and Purple learned about their families by mapping out a family tree! Afterwards, they played a dice game where each family member represented a number, and the children competed to see if they could roll every family member first.
PinkクラスとPurpleクラスは家系図を書いて家族について学びました！その後、家族の一人ひとりを数字に見立てたサイコロゲームで遊び、子ども達は誰よりも早く家族全員の数を揃えられるかを競い合いました。
The preschool classes played a game of fukuwarai! The children practiced yelling, “Left! Right! Up! Down!”—though they were so excited that they sometimes forgot the person placing the pieces was actually blindfolded!
幼稚園のクラスで福笑いをしました。子ども達は「左！右！上！下！」と叫ぶ練習をしました—でも興奮しすぎて、各パーツを置く役目の子が、目隠しをしていることを時々忘れてしまうほどでした！
Mr. Daruma is a classic game that we all enjoy! It can be hard to control our movements, but we did our best and had fun!
「だるまさんが転んだ」は、みんなで楽しめる定番の遊びですね。止まったままの体勢を保つのは難しく、その難しさに大笑いしながらもみんな真剣です！
Now that we know the English words for many foods, we are learning where they come from. We played a fun guessing game to test our knowledge!
多くの食べ物の英語名を知ったところで、今度はそれらの語源を学んでいます。知識を試す楽しいクイズゲームをしました！
For this month’s project, the children will be creating an omikuji (fortune teller). Before starting the craft, the teachers showed pictures of Japanese New Year traditions. The children had a lot of fun explaining shrines and sharing what we do there with their teachers!
今月のプロジェクトでは、子ども達が「おみくじ」を作ります。クラフトを始める前に、先生方が日本の新年の伝統行事の写真を見せました。子ども達は神社について説明したり、そこで何をするのかを先生方と共有したりして、とても楽しんでいました！
After the short presentation, some classes were able to try the teachers’ fortune tellers. They had a great time discovering what their first fortunes of the year would be!
いくつかのクラスは先生たちの運勢を占いました。皆さん、今年の運勢はいかがなものかな？後でこっそり教えてね！
