In the Purple class, we have been learning English by trying to create practical situations that help us use English as we would in our daily lives. In one of the lessons, we learned how to give directions by playing a game. First, the children, in two teams, listed down as many directions phrases as they could. For example, they wrote down phrases like turn left, turn right, go forward, and go backwards.
Next, everyone made a simple eye mask using paper, and tape. They really enjoyed the process, and joked about being superheroes. They also wrote down in their journals, using a few sentences, how they had made the masks.
Finally, we all played the Directions Game where one team member would put on their eye mask. Then, relying on listening to their teammates’ directions phrases, they would walk slowly towards a points jar, and add points into the jar for their team. The trick of the game was to move carefully without bumping into any of the blue chairs. Everyone really enjoyed the game and the lesson.
