December is always a time of year where we can reflect on what we have done and achieved this year, and what we hope for ourselves and others in the coming year. With that in mind, Green class undertook two projects this month, one to help us reflect and the other looking to next year.
12月はこの1年を振り返り、来年の目標などを立てる良い機会です。Greenクラスでは、これに関連するプロジェクトを2つ行いました。1つは1年を振り返るもの、もう1つは来年の目標についてです。
We’ve still continued our workbooks this month as well. December has seen us visit Egypt and talk about how everyday objects were different or similar 3000 years ago. We also practiced using adjectives, particularly opposites. Here, the children are working together to group the vocabulary by different categories. We often work in pairs and groups in class as it’s a great way to build our confidence and learn how to compromise. Green class always have a lot of fun in activities like these and it’s lovely to hear them using their English in very natural conversation.
また、テキストブックを使ってのレッスンも引き続き行っています。12月はエジプトに着目し、日用品が現在と3,000年前とどのように違うのか、また、似ているところはあるかなど、クラス内で話し合いました。また、形容詞、特に対義語の使い方も練習しています。この写真は、ボキャブラリーをカテゴリー別に分けているところです。レッスンでは、ペアやグループになって活動することが多く、自信をつけたり、妥協点を見つけることにも繋がります。Greenクラスではこういった活動をとても楽しんでくれており、とても自然な会話で英語を話している姿を誇らしく思います。
One of our projects was to make a card for someone we care about. Many of the children chose parents or siblings but there were friends and teachers included too. We drew the cards ourselves and discussed what kind of messages we write in Christmas cards. Here the children are writing their good wishes for the new year with phrases like “I hope 2026 will be good to you”. When writing messages like these, we can use English in different ways to what we often do in our lessons. It also helps write more personally as we are doing it directly for another and , on top of all that, it’s a lot of fun to make the card.
1つ目のプロジェクトは、大切な人へカードを作りました。多くの子がご両親やきょうだいに向けて書いていましたが、中には友達や先生たちに宛てて書いてくれた子もいました。それぞれカードを作成し、クリスマスカードにはどのようなメッセージを載せるのか、話し合いました。「I hope 2026 will be good to you.（2026年が良い年になりますように）」など、新年への願いを込めたカードができあがりました。こういった季節のメッセージは、日常で使う英語とは異なることも同時に学ぶことができました。特定の誰かに向けて書くことで、よりパーソナルなメッセージを書くことができました。
The final project was writing a summary of our year. For this, we thought back over the whole year, discussing major events and holidays and what we had done for them. At first, the children had difficulty recalling what they’d done but soon were telling their friends about their memories. Here, the children are presenting their summary to the class, having written it in their journals first. Presenting is a great way to give what we write a purpose and also to give us practice delivering a longer speech. The class is always very supportive and we’re often laughing as each child tries to make their speech funnier than the last.
最後のプロジェクトは、1年のまとめを書くことでした。これに伴い、1年間のイベントや祝日などを振り返りました。初めはみんな「何をしたっけ？」と思い出すのに苦戦していましたが、すぐにお互いに思い出を話し合う姿が見られました。ジャーナルに1年間のまとめを書いたあと、クラスで発表しました。発表（プレゼンテーション）は、書いたものに目的を持たせると同時に、長めのスピーチを行う練習にもなります。Greenクラスはいつもとても協力的で、子どもたちは前の人よりも面白いスピーチをしようと工夫するので、よく笑いが起こります。
