This past month has seen Yellow class get into their new unit which talks about all things Space travel. Each week they have been practicing vocabulary that has been key for understanding in this unit such as rocket, astronaut, telescope, spaceship and many more. At first they were unsure of many words but after a lot of active card games like snap or memory quizzes they are now very fast at recognizing each word via hints or flash cards. The students also took a keen interest in the Solar system and the names of the 8 planets. They memorized the order, names, sizes and colors of the different planets and also spoke about which one they like the most.
今回は、Yellowクラスの生徒達が最近取り組んでいた「宇宙旅行」に関するプロジェクトについてご紹介します。
毎週のレッスンでは、ロケットや宇宙飛行士、望遠鏡、宇宙船など、このテーマを理解するために必須となる数々のボキャブラリーを学びました。最初は少し難しい単語もありましたが、Snapなどのカードゲームや記憶力クイズを積極的に行っていく中で、今ではわずかなヒントやフラッシュカードを見せるとすぐに単語を認識して答えることができるようになりました。
また、生徒達は太陽系と8つの惑星の名称に強い関心を見せ、各惑星の順番や名前、大きさ、色などをすっかり覚えて、自分はどの惑星が一番好きか話し合っていました。
Students also discussed short comic strips about a space adventure. They used their English skills to describe each picture, put various images in order and also speculate about what might happen next. They read articles detailing our understanding of Mars and answered questions about the information. They also read an extended blog story about astronauts and a frightening experience.
ある日の授業では、宇宙への冒険旅行をテーマにした短編漫画についても話し合いました。
生徒達は英語力を駆使して、それぞれの絵の内容について説明し、ばらばらに置いた絵をストーリーの順番に並べて、次に何が起こるのか推測しました。
また、火星についての理解を深めるためにある記事を読み、文章の内容についての質問に答えました。さらには、宇宙飛行士と彼らの恐ろしい体験についての書かれたブログ記事も読みました。
このプロジェクトの総仕上げとして、自分で「宇宙船を操縦するためのコントロールパネル」を設計しました。複雑なボタンやスイッチを組み合わせた様々なコントロールパネルが完成し、クラスメイト同士でお互いに操縦方法を披露し合い、楽しい時間を過ごしました。
Their final project was to design their own spaceship control panel and then to instruct each other how to operate it with complex buttons and switches.
It has been a very interesting unit since we started it a month ago. It was also a good challenge for Yellow class as they approach the end of this After School year.
このプロジェクトの総仕上げとして、「宇宙船を操縦するためのコントロールパネル」を設計しました。複雑なボタンやスイッチを組み合わせた様々なコントロールパネルが完成し、クラスメイト同士でお互いに操縦方法を説明し合い、とても楽しい時間を過ごしました。
宇宙をテーマに展開したこのプロジェクトは、大変興味深く有意義なものになりました。
学年末を間近に控えたYellowクラスの生徒達にとって、それぞれの成長と進歩が感じられる素晴らしいチャレンジになったと思います。
