Greetings from the After School Blue class! I hope everyone managed to get through this hot summer alright. It’s been so hot but in the Blue class we’ve been up to some really “cool” things. So what’s been going on in our class lately?
アフタースクール・Blueクラスから、夏のご挨拶を申し上げます！
今年の夏は、例年にも増して厳しい暑さが続きましたが、ご家族の皆さまいかがお過ごしでしょうか？ 毎日暑い中、Blueクラスの生徒達は非常に「Cool（クール）」なレッスンに取り組んでいます。ここ最近のレッスンの様子をご紹介しましょう。
While the children have gotten a lot of practice speaking, and have become quite skilled talkers, one of the things they often struggle with is spelling and writing. Here in the Blue class we have weekly spelling tests where the children get to learn new words, and really get to think about sounds and how words are written and also think about different strategies for remembering spelling such as sounding out the words in a weird or funny way.
レッスンではSpeakingの練習を多く行い、今ではみんなとても上手に話せるようになりましたが、スペリング（綴り）とWritingに苦戦する姿も見られます。
Blueクラスでは毎週スペリングの小テストを取り入れ、生徒達は新しい単語を学びながら、フォニックスの音（サウンド）や英単語の書き方について考えたり、スペルを覚えるための様々な方法、例えば、ある英単語を面白い言い方で発音してみたりすることにチャレンジしています。
This kind of practice is good but we also try and mix in some more active learning. In the activity featured above, the children worked in pairs to practice a variety of communication skills. One child would go to a piece of paper on the carpet, read the sentence written on it, then they would have to say the sentence to their partner from memory. Their partner would have to listen to the sentence and write it down in their journal. Not only did the children enjoy the activity but this is a great way to work on the four key elements of communication: reading, writing, speaking, and listening.
このような練習に加えて、よりアクティブに英語を学ぶことができるアクティビティもレッスンでは紹介しています。
上の写真は、生徒達が2人1組になって、様々なコミュニケーション・スキルを練習しているところです。 一人の生徒がカーペットの上に置かれた紙を取って、そこに書かれた文章を読み、その文章を記憶してパートナーに伝えます。 パートナーはその文章をノートに書き表すことが求められます。
コミュニケーションの4大要素である「Reading（読む）」「Writing（書く）」「Speaking（話す）」「Listening（聞く）」の能力を生かしたこのアクティビティに、生徒達は楽しみながらチャレンジし、レッスンは大いに盛り上がりました。
We also try and mix in different kinds of learning too. In this photo, the children are working on making a family tree that will feature various members of their family since we learned about family in Unit 4. Once finished the children will then present their tree to the other children.
また、レッスンでは様々な種類の学習を取り入れながら進めています。
こちらの写真では、コースブックのユニット4で「家族」をテーマに学んだことから、家族の様々なメンバーが登場するFamily Tree（家系図）を制作しました。自分のTreeが完成したら、みんなの前で発表する予定です。
