One of the things the Orange Class really enjoyed this year is pairing up with a partner and challenging the other team. In our final unit, we focused on the things we need when we go camping. The students said many words associated with camping and we had a special challenge of Pictionary. I would draw a picture and the first team to guess what it was, would get a point. The students really enjoy working together and have improved a lot since the start of the year. It was a nice way to review our vocabulary words and the Orange class had lots of fun!
Orangeクラスでは、パートナーと一緒にチーム対抗戦を行うのが大好きでした。最後のレッスンユニットでは、キャンプの時に必要なものに着目し、子どもたちはキャンプに関連する単語を並べ、ピクショナリーを楽しみました。私がホワイトボードに描いた絵を見て、チームが順番に何の絵なのかを考え、正解すればポイントが加算されます。友達と一緒にチームでの活動をとても楽しんでくれ、年度初めに比べるとチームワークもずっと成長したと思います。この活動では、ボキャブラリーの復習にもなり、楽しい時間を過ごすことができました！
To introduce the vocabulary and the theme of the day, we start our lessons with Circle Time. It’s a way to introduce the topic we will be going over and get the students prepared for the day. In this activity, the Orange Class was asked to draw a picture of the sky. Each of the students drew their sky in a unique way, whether it was daytime or nighttime. They added their own unique flavor to the things in the sky, such as big clouds and airplanes. It was a good way to start our lesson on sunrise and sunset. The students really enjoy drawing and we try to learn using methods that they really enjoy.
サークルタイムでは、その日のテーマやボキャブラリーを紹介し、その日のレッスンの準備をするようにしています。ある日のサークルタイムでは、「空」の絵を描きました。みんな、それぞれの空模様を描き、日中の空を描いた子もいれば、夜の空の絵を描いた子もいました。そして、最後には大きな雲や飛行機などのユニークなスパイスを足して仕上げました。日の出と日の入りについて、レッスンを始める良いきっかけとなりました。特に絵を描くことを楽しんでくれ、子どもたちが喜ぶ手法を取り入れるようにしています。
In one of our final lessons we decided to have Show and Tell. The Orange Class was told to bring something that is special to them and to think of why it’s special to them. Each of the students talked about why the item is special to them and we all learned something new about them. The students brought things such as special type of markers, a very cool train set and a cute stuffed bird. It was nice to see the students talk about something they really are passionate about. It was a really enjoyable lesson.
2024年度のアフタースクールも終わりに近づき、Show and Tellを行うことにしました。Orangeクラスの子どもたちは、家から1つ紹介したいものを持ってきて、クラスの前でなぜそれが特別なものなのかを発表しました。そうすることで、新しいことを学ぶきっかけになったり、友達がどんなものを大切にしているのかを知ることができました。マーカーやプラレール、かわいい鳥のぬいぐるみなど、みんなが好きなものについて一生懸命話す姿が印象的で、とても有意義なレッスンになりました。
