In the Blue class, our most recent project has been exploring stories and writing reviews on them. We began our projects by individually picking a story that interested us, and reading through it together. Afterwards, we made our handmade books by folding paper and tying them together. The final touch was designing the cover with a title of our own, such as, “Gabby’s Book Review of ‘The Baby Bunny Book’ by Richard Scarry.”
Blueクラスでは、最近のプロジェクトで物語を読み、その本についてレビューを書くことに取り組みました。
まず、それぞれが興味を持った物語を自分で選び、みんなで読み進めました。その後、紙を折って紐で綴じ、自分たちだけの手作りの本を作りました。最後に表紙をデザインし、「Gabby’s Book Review of ‘The Baby Bunny Book’ by Richard Scarry」のように、自分で考えたタイトルをつけました。
Little by little we went through the books, learning how to find the author, the title, as well as summarizing the plot of a book. It was a big challenge to look through the story and think about what that page was about, but the children learned a lot of new vocabulary through this process! We especially enjoyed comparing the stories, and our sentences. Seeing who had the longest, or the most interesting.
少しずつ本を読み進めながら、作者名やタイトルの見つけ方、そして本のあらすじをまとめる方法を学びました。物語を読みながら「このページはどんなお話だったかな？」と考えることは、子ども達にとって大きなチャレンジでしたが、その過程でたくさんの新しい語彙を身につけることができました！
特に楽しかったのは、それぞれの物語や、自分たちが書いた文章を比べることでした。誰の文章が一番長いか、どの文章が一番面白いかなどを比べながら、お互いの作品を楽しみました。
Afterwards, we discussed why we picked our books, why we would recommend it, and even gave it a rating! It’s been a great project to encourage reading and finding information within a story. It showed the children why reading is not only important, but fun as well. The children have loved expressing their interests in the stories, as well as practicing their writing and critical thinking. By the end, they were thrilled with their long worked-on projects, feeling very proud of what they accomplished!
その後は、なぜその本を選んだのか、なぜ人におすすめしたいのかについて話し合い、さらに本に評価をつけました！
今回のプロジェクトは、子ども達が読書を楽しみながら、物語の中から情報を見つける力を身につける素晴らしい機会となりました。読書は大切なだけでなく、楽しいものでもあるということを、子ども達は実際に体験することができました。
また、それぞれが好きな物語について自分の興味や考えを表現しながら、文章を書く力や考える力（critical thinking）も練習することができました。
長い時間をかけて一生懸命取り組んできたプロジェクトが完成すると、子ども達は自分たちの作品を手に、とても嬉しそうな表情を見せていました。自分たちで最後までやり遂げたことを、とても誇らしく感じている様子でした！
